I AM shocked by the arrogance and contempt displayed on a weekly basis by the leadership of a political party, whose supporters were conned in believing they were voting for civility and change. Khemraj Ramjattan appears power drunk and would do or say anything to steal voter-support from Granger’s PNC/APNU. In 2012, as government announced the July 1 deadline for the withdrawal of electricity subsidy for the town of Linden, the Alliance For Change (AFC) became very active on the frontline of the PNC stronghold, organising protests which eventually led to anarchy and the unfortunate deaths of three “peaceful protestors.” |

TWO disturbing legal developments caught my attention recently and I have decided to comment on both of them. The first focuses on the preliminary inquiry, or PI, of the triple murder accused, George Blanchard which has to be done all over again and I hastily ask the question, why? Why should this matter have to go through the process of hearing witnesses and the lot when this was done already? What happened to the PI conducted by Magistrate Sobers? What became of those notes? |

“THE importance of home ownership to an individual or family is an asset and a sense of security for these individuals.” That was an excerpt from President Donald Ramotar’s address at the recent launching of the 1,000 homes turnkey initiative at Perseverance on the East Bank of Demerara. These homes, two and three-bedroom structures which would be sold at an average of $4M is indeed music to the ears of poor and middle-income families. |
