IT gives me great pleasure to extend greetings to all Guyanese, but particularly the Muslim Community, who are today joyously marking the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, the end of the Holy month of Ramadan. The month of Ramadan is a time of reflection, prayer, charity and fasting by Muslims. Fasting carries great spiritual and personal value, promoting inner sanctification and purification, as well as external self-discipline, and empathy towards the less fortunate in society.
Fasting also fosters inner tranquility and outward expressions of generosity and charity.
On this joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, it is my sincere and humble wish that this festival will help forge greater peace and calm in our souls, and within our country; encourage a spirit of oneness with each other; and allow all to reach out with greater love and compassion to the needy.
Happy Eid-ul-Fitr to all Guyana!
