THE Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) late yesterday confirmed that the moon associated with the observation of the Muslim festival of Eid has been sighted, and that as such the event will be officially celebrated today as anticipated.
Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama, in a message to Muslims the world over, said: “Ramadan is a time for families and communities to enjoy the tradition of coming together in reflection, devotion and service.” He goes on to say: “On behalf of the American people, I extend best wishes as you and your people celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. It is my hope that the Holy month of Ramadan brings to all Muslims a time of sharing and renewal. “May you and your people enjoy peace, health and prosperity in the coming year. Eid Mubarak!” |
