| Museum of African Heritage celebrates 18 years -over $7M handed over to African groups in observance of Emancipation 2012 |

PERMANENT Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Alfred King, on Friday joined scores of attendees at the Museum of African Heritage, Barima Avenue, for the launch of Emancipation 2012.
After an impacting libation ceremony, to celebrate the Museum’s 18th Anniversary, King addressed the gathering and expressed the ministry’s pleasure to be associated with the month- long activities. He added that each year, more organised groups are working tirelessly to promote and observe emancipation and the freedom from slavery - a benefit derived in 1834. There are currently 55 African groups registered with the Culture Ministry; and this year, according to King, 49 of them received assistance to the tune of $7.98M from government to offset expenses for their observances. “This celebration continues to promote a level of awareness and consciousness to value our ancestors and their struggle for freedom,” he said. In this regard, he told the gathering that freedom should not be taken lightly. |
