MAN KILLS REPUTED WIFE - attempts suicide by poisoning A THIRTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD mother of four, Mohanie Gobin, of Sparta, East Bank Essequibo, was murdered yesterday morning. Her dead body was found lying in a pool of blood in the storage room of her reputed husband’s workplace, at the River Quest Jet Boat Service, Silver Beach, Roden Rust, also on the East Bank of Essequibo. It is reported that she suffered a fatal blow with a piece of metal inflicted by her reputed husband of ten years, Ramesh Sattaur, who later attempted to commit suicide by ingesting poison. Speaking to the media yesterday, at the location of the tragedy, the woman’s eldest son, Arjune Ramkishore said he received a call, just before 07:00hrs, informing him that his mother’s reputed husband had struck her on the head and she died.He said, when he arrived at the scene, there were several persons already there while his mother’s lifeless corpse lay in the blood. It was then taken to West Demerara Regional Hospital at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, where her death was pronounced. The young man said he was told that after Sattaur lashed his mother, he drank the poisonous substance and fled into nearby bushes. However, he was later apprehended and taken for medical attention. Ramkishore said he last spoke with his mother earlier in the morning before she left for work, as she is employed as a domestic. ANY CONFRONTATION He was unaware that his mother and Sattaur were having any problems as he never saw them in any confrontation with each other. But he works in the interior and was not around the family much of the time. However, the 21-year-old said his information was that Sattaur went to his mother’s Mora home and they had an argument over a mobile phone, which the man took from her and carried to his place of employment. He said his mother had gone to man’s workplace to retrieve the phone when she met her demise. Meanwhile, at the home of the woman’s other three children and their father, other persons from the village commenced erecting a tent for holding a wake. Recalling how he and his wife separated, after 19 years together, the children’s father, Naculraj Ramkishore said it was due to the affair between her and Sattaur. He said he kept visiting the house to check on his children and in the hope of being able to reconcile with the woman and resume living in one house. He is presently living in Tuschen Housing Scheme, another part of East Bank Essequibo. He pledged to ensure that he remains strong for his children who are 21, 18, 17 and 15 years old. |
