A TAXI driver assaulted his wife because she refused to have sexual intercourse with him, a court was told yesterday.
Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry heard about the incident when Kennedy Williams, 32, of Lot 17 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, Georgetown, made his appearance before her.The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said it was committed on Susan Williams, last May 18. Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the man took his wife to a hotel and attempted to have sex with her against her will. The prosecutor said the virtual complainant told the defendant she cannot have sexual intercourse because she was menstruating. The defendant became annoyed, slapped the woman and also threatened her. As a result, she became fearful and reported to police, the Prosecutor stated. Williams has to make another appearance on May 28 but, meantime, he was put on a bond to keep the peace and ordered to lodge $25,000 bail. |
