-- prosecution’s case deemed quite pointless MICHELLE Sancho, 38, of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown yesterday made her final appearance in Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore’s court for the conclusion of her drug trafficking case. Charged on January 23 last, she had first appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, which transferred her matter to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for trial. Particulars of the offence had stated that on January 21, at Ogle Airport, ECD, she was in possession of 190 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) and six grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. She had then pleaded not guilty to the charge, and had since been represented by Attorney-at Law Mortimer Coddette. Sancho was remanded to prison for approximately three weeks before her counsel had managed to secure bail for her in the sum of $500,000. Mr. Donald Downer, prosecuting for the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), had stated that the narcotics were discovered at the airport in two separate bags belonging to the defendant. After approximately four months of questioning, and a total of five witnesses testifying, the matter was finally concluded when Magistrate Alex Moore dismissed the charges against Sancho because of insufficient evidence, making her once again a free woman. The magistrate said he found the prosecution’s case quite pointless, and that the woman had no case to answer. |
