A 35-year-old Enmore Estate worker, who hails from Enterprise Gardens, East Coast Demerara, was arraigned at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday for unlawfully and maliciously wounding his wife, Drupattie Datadin.
Upon arraignment, the alleged perpetrator, Ragindra Sumindar, conducted himself in a nonchalant manner, and did not appear to be remorseful for the injuries he allegedly inflicted on his wife. While the circumstances leading to the assault were not openly ventilated in court, the defendant nonetheless pleaded not guilty to the allegations. However after noting the gravity of the injuries sustained by the complainant and the prevalence of such offences, Magistrate Nyasha Williams- Hatmin remanded Sumindar to prison until May 28, when he is expected to make his next appearance. |
