Charged butcher remanded, cops under close arrest POLICE raided the Lot 246 Forshaw Street, Queenstown, Georgetown home on April 20 and found 582 grammes of cannabis (marijuana), Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry heard yesterday. Before the Court, then, was butcher Teon Edwards, who pleaded not guilty to being in possession of the narcotic for the purpose of trafficking. Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the prohibited substance was in a plastic bag in the defendant’s home. Explaining why the defendant was only now making his Court appearance, the prosecutor said, on April 23, when the investigating officer went to collect Edwards from the station, it was revealed that some other policemen had released him from custody. The prosecutor said those responsible for the release are under close arrest and he objected to bail for Edwards, pointing out that no special reasons were advanced, in accordance with the legislation. Edwards has to be back in Court on May 4. |
