THE witness, Simone De Nobrega returned to be further cross-examined yesterday, when the preliminary inquiry (PI) in the Neesa Gopaul murder case resumed. But defence counsel Vic Puran, who is representing the victim’s mother, Bibi Gopaul, was not present. Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry was informed, by letter, that Puran is out of the jurisdiction to tend to his sick mother. Senior counsel Bernard De Santos, who is defending the other accused, Jarvis Small, had, previously, declined cross-examination of De Nobrega. The proceedings were, consequently, postponed to May 4, when a forensic analyst from Barbados is expected to be grilled by the defence lawyers. The remains of 16-year-old Neesa Gopaul were found, stuffed in a suitcase in Madewini Creek, in the vicinity of Emerald Tower Resort, on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, on October 2, 2010. |
